A robocall is a phone call that uses a computerized autodialer to deliver a pre-recorded message - often from political entities and telemarketers. Robocalls are also used for public-service or emergency announcements. Still, nearly half of all calls received by Americans today are unwanted and unsolicited spam calls. Illegal robocalls have spiked in recent years as scammers employ newer and cheaper ways to reach consumers and search for sensitive personal information. These scammers, often located in foreign countries, often target Social Security numbers and credit card information. In 2019, Americans received nearly 59 billion robocalls, an increase of 22% from the 48 billion received the previous year. Advocates say the FCC's ability to enforce robocall laws depends on people's complaints about specific calls. The agency received 232,000 of these complaints in 2018.

  • I oppose reforming current robocall advertising policy and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Leader Speaker Mike Johnson (LA).
  • I support requiring providers of telephone service, for no additional charge, to offer technology to subscribers to reduce the incidence of unwanted telephone calls and text messages by: 1.) Verifying the accuracy of caller ID information. 2.) Blocking calls or text messages that do not have verified caller ID information. 3.) Blocking calls or text messages that originate, or probably originate, from an autodialer, unless the consumer has consented or the call is coming from a public safety entity. 4.) Establishing a private right of action to enjoin or recover damages for violations of the new call-blocking requirements in this bill. 5.) Allowing states to bring civil actions for a failure to provide the call-blocking required by this bill. And wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Rep. Bob Latta (OH) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.
